Committed citizens from Halle and the Saale district are honored for extraordinary voluntary commitment. A total of three citizens' prizes, a jury prize, the initiators' prize and an audience award will be awarded. The
announcement is made via the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung. The proposals for the Citizen's Awards, the Jury Prize and the Audience Award come from the population.
A top-class jury selects the winners from these proposals. The prize of the initiators is awarded by the three above-mentioned initiators. These are personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the city of Halle and the Saale district (e.g. Günter Grass, Bärbel Bohley, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Willi Sitte, Prof. Dr. Jörg Hacker).
The award ceremony itself enjoys the highest social recognition and is staged by the Neues Theater. The artistic director - actor Matthias Brenner - will lead through the award ceremony. In addition to attractive cash prizes, the award winners will receive a donkey sculpture created exclusively for this honour by the Halle artist Carsten Theumert.
New from 2018 is also the assumption of sponsorships for one year by the initiators and sponsors for the award winners. As part of these sponsorships, numerous other activities will take place together with the award winners until the new award ceremony.
